Foundation Programmes

International students whose high school curriculum does not map on to A-Levels and who therefore cannot be considered for 1st year entry have the option of taking a foundation programme in order to meet the University’s academic entry requirements for undergraduate study. The University of Aberdeen does not currently offer its own foundation programmes, but considers a wide range of foundation programmes from UK providers such as, but not limited to:

INTO UK

Kaplan International Colleges

Kings Education

If you have any questions about foundation programmes and their suitability, please contact the International Officer for your country.

International students interested in our BEng in Mechanical Engineering with Oil & Gas Studies, BEng in Petroleum Engineering, or BEng in Chemical Engineering who cannot be considered for 1st year entry have the option of undertaking the Foundation Certificate for Petroleum Engineering offered by Kaplan International Colleges in Nottingham, UK. Successful completion of the foundation certificate allows students to progress onto the 2nd year of the above-named Engineering degrees.

Although many UK universities offer similar programmes Aberdeen is unique and can proudly claim the following:

The University of Aberdeen is one of only two universities in Europe to be named a Chevron Global Preferred Partner.

The University of Aberdeen’s School of Engineering is an ExxonMobil Centre of Teaching Excellence.

The University of Aberdeen is the only university outside of North America to be named a Halliburton Strategic Education Partner. Halliburton are sponsoring Aberdeen’s £200,000 cutting-edge 3D Visualisation Suite.
