Around 2 weeks before your orientation, you’ll receive an email from us at your UAH email with a list of recommended courses similar to the table below.

Biology Majors-Recommended Fall Courses

  • BYS 119 Principles of Biology (with lab and recitation)

AND

  • CH 121 or CH101 (see below)
Note:  Math placement determines your chemistry course.
  • CH 121/125 General Chemistry + lab if enrolled in MA 113 or MA 171
  • CH 101/105 Intro to Chemistry + lab if enrolled in MA 112 or MA 113 or you have not taken a Chemistry

Chemistry is required for most upper-level biology courses and is strongly recommended for freshman year.

But…

1. Did you take Biology or Chemistry as a dual enrollment student?

Yes:  email cosorientation@uah.edu your college transcript and bring it with you to orientation.

  • If you took BYS 119, take BYS 120 in the Fall or take in the Spring.
  • If you took CH 101, take CH 121 + CH 125 in the Fall if you are in MA 113 or MA 171.
  • If you took CH 121, take CH 123 + CH 126 in the Fall or take it in the Spring.
2. Do you have AP Credit for Biology?
  • If you took the exam Junior year, email your scores to cosorientation@uah.edu
  • If you took the exam Senior year, AP scores arrive mid-July and you can adjust your schedule. Until then you must register for the recommended course on your registration sheet
    • AP score 3 = BYS 119
    • AP score 4 or 5 = BYS 119 + BYS 120
3. Do you have AP Credit for Chemistry?
  • If you took the exam Junior year, email your scores to cosorientation@uah.edu

    • AP score 3 = CH 101/CH 105
    • AP score 4 = CH 121/CH 125

How did advisors determine the classes I should take?

Registration information is based on your ACT/SAT scores, AP, and/or dual enrollment scores we have already received.

But, some of the classes listed on my registration sheet are incorrect.
