Congratulations and Welcome to the Charger Family!

We are excited you have chosen to attend UAH and look forward to having you as a part of the Charger Family! New Student Orientation is designed to prepare you for the personal, social, and academic changes ahead. We have tailored our orientation programs to fit the needs of all our incoming students whether transitioning from high school, another college, or the workforce.

Helping you get your UAH experience off to a smooth start, registering for classes, and getting connected socially are just a few of the benefits of New Student Orientation. This is why completing orientation is required for all new, degree-seeking students.

Freshman:

You’ve Made a Great Decision in Choosing to Join Charger Nation!

Register for Freshman Orientation through your Charger Status account by clicking on the session date you wish to attend. In order to register, you will need your Student Identification Number (begins with “A”) and your Charger ID which can be found on your acceptance letter.

HONORS COLLEGE PRIORITY ORIENTATION:

This session is reserved for freshmen admitted to the UAH Honors College. 

  • Friday, May 12th – Saturday, May 13th – SESSION FULL

FRESHMAN ORIENTATION (2 DAY SESSIONS):
  • Sunday, May 21st – Monday, May 22nd – SESSION FULL
  • Sunday, June 11th – Monday, June 12th – SESSION FULL
  • Monday, June 19th – Tuesday, June 20th – SESSION FULL
  • Sunday, July 9th – Monday, July 10th
  • Thursday, July 27th – Friday, July 28th

FRESHMAN ORIENTATION (1 DAY SESSIONS):
  • Monday, June 5th – SESSION FULL
  • Thursday, July 13th
  • Friday, August 11th

Please keep in mind that all sessions are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. All first-time freshmen are required to attend a Freshman Orientation session. If you need to make changes to your orientation reservation, please email orientation@uah.edu.

Freshman Orientation Fees

A charge of $225 will be included in your university bill payable when tuition is due at the start of the semester. This cost covers the student orientation fee and up to two guests. If you wish to bring more than two guests, there will be an additional fee ($50 for 2 day sessions and $25 for 1 day sessions) per guest due at event check-in. The only orientation cost due on the day of the event is if you have more than two guests attending Freshman Orientation.

What to Expect at Freshman Orientation

Freshman Orientation is designed to be informative and productive, and you have the option of attending a one-day or two-day session. Students attending two-day sessions will spend the night in a campus residence hall.

During your orientation session you will:  

  • Meet with your academic advisor to discuss expectations and register for classes.
  • Learn more about campus housing
  • Get your Charger Card (Student ID) and complete immunization forms with Student Health Services
  • Discover tools to enable your academic success
  • Learn about the campus, student involvement opportunities, and traditions
  • Meet and socialize with current and new students
Preparing for Freshman Orientation

Transfer, Second Bachelors, or Non-Traditional:

You’ve Made a Great Decision in Choosing to Join Charger Nation!

Transfer, second bachelor’s, and non-traditional students have the option of completing an Online Orientation or attending a Transfer Orientation session on campus. Follow these steps to register for your orientation experience.

STEP 1: Meet with your Academic Advisor

Transfer, second bachelor’s, and non-traditional students are encouraged to meet with an academic advisor to discuss transfer credit and class selection prior to completing orientation.

STEP 2: Register for Orientation

Register for Transfer Orientation through your Charger Status account by clicking on the experience you wish to complete. In order to register, you will need your Student Identification Number (begins with “A”) and your Charger ID which can be found on your acceptance letter.

  • Transfer Online Orientation

  • Transfer Orientation – Monday, August 7

Students completing Online Transfer Orientation will be charged a $25 orientation fee that will be included in your university bill payable when tuition is due at the start of the semester.

Students attending Transfer Orientation on campus will be charged a $50 orientation fee that will be included in your university bill payable when tuition is due at the start of the semester. If you wish to bring guests, there will be an additional $25 fee per guest due at event check-in. The only orientation cost due on the day of the event is if you have guests attending Transfer Orientation.

What to Expect at Transfer Orientation

Through Online Transfer Orientation you will: 

  • Learn about campus resources and amenities
  • Discover tools to enable your academic success at UAH
  • Learn about campus, student involvement opportunities, and traditions
  • Receive information about what you need to do before joining us on campus (Charger Card, meal plans, immunization forms, academic advising, and more).

At Transfer Orientation on campus you will:

  • Meet with your academic advisor to discuss transfer credit and academic expectations and register for classes
  • Arrange for on-campus housing (if needed)
  • Get your Charger Card (Student ID) & complete immunization forms with Student Health Services
  • Discover tools to enable your academic success
  • Learn about campus, student involvement opportunities, and traditions
  • Meet and socialize with current and new students
  • Meet with Veterans Affairs (if needed)

Parents and Guests:

Parent and Guest Orientation

Each of our Orientation programs has a concurrent Parent and Guest Orientation. We realize you are an important key to your student’s success, so we have designed sessions that will help you assist your student in preparing for college at UAH.

What to Expect at Orientation

Whether or not you have visited UAH previously, Orientation will provide you with new information, so be ready to take notes and ask questions. Orientation is a very fun and spirited atmosphere packed with activity, so be sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes.

At Orientation you will:

  • Meet with UAH representatives who will provide academic and career counseling for your student
  • Discover university resources exclusively designed to ensure that your student has a successful college experience
  • Finalize all of your student’s needs before the semester begins
  • Meet other Charger Family members
Registering for Orientation

When you and your student decide on the best session date, please have them register online. Orientation reservations should be made using each student’s name. On the registration form, your student will have the opportunity to indicate if parents/guests will be attending Orientation.

Helping your Student Prepare

Help your student prepare by going through the Charger Checklist together! This checklist, along with Orientation programming, will help answer all your questions and complete all the needed steps for a successful first year at UAH. Remind your student that Orientation is important to their success, and encourage them to meet other students and take notes during the sessions.

Stay Involved through Parent & Family Programs

At Orientation you will hear more about the year-around programs and opportunities for you to engage with your student during their academic journey.
